The conservation of a Grade II* listed cottage orné is part of the restoration of a rare Regency landscape, a significant element of the Grade II* Registered Old Warden Park. Built c.1830, repaired in the 1870’s and saved in the 1970’s, the Swiss Cottage is the focus of the most important garden of its date in England. Works carried out included re-thatching, the restoration of gilded finials, and the conservation of a unique scheme of rustic decoration made from twigs and pinecones as well as a remarkable grained and painted interior. This restoration project has been a huge success, bringing together the local community to celebrate the site and buildings and has given the people of Bedfordshire something to feel proud about.
EBS Ltd was delighted to be involved in this prestigious project.
